Halloween in our house is a time for crafting and creativity. Though focus is mostly on costumes, every now and then other opportunities emerge. To bring some Halloween cheer to the residents, I created a brain cake for them to enjoy during noon conference. Reception ranged from "amazing" to "gross" but everyone enjoyed eating the tasty treat.
Aside from creating the costumes themselves, Victoria's required one important prop that was a bit harder to locate. A look on Etsy found me with a vendor who 3D printed the sword she needed. A dowel and epoxy later and her sword was ready to be painted.
The sword was primed white and followed by three coats of paint for each section which required numerous days for drying. A final touch that Victoria wanted was iridescent, multihued paint to make the sword appear to light up over the silver metallic blade. The final product was better than envisioned.
