With fewer and fewer nice weather days and a renewed interest in our nation's national parks following the Ryan reunion, we headed to the Boston Harbor Islands. This national park is comprised of 34 islands though only 12 can be visited. As the season was coming to an end, we visited one - George's Island. This is the most famous as it houses the Civil War era fort - Fort Warren.
A short 20 minute ferry ride and we are here.
Making this trip and adventure was becoming a Junior Ranger. We were basically sent on a scavenger hunt to find various parts of the fort. What an excellent way to learn about the island and the fort while keeping everyone's interest. Our favorite was being able to explore in tunnels and passageways without lights. Good thing we had our cell phones which turned into flashlights. Afterwards, the kids were sworn in as Junior Rangers.
