Halloween at Work

I so enjoy working in a pediatric field on holiday's such as Halloween.  Each year the department develops a theme.  This year's theme was 'Monster Mash'.  Trying to come up with a monster that isn't scary was harder than it thinks.  I decided to be one of the Sesame Street Martians.  My friend Kerry helped me create this costume one weekend.  I knew it would be a hit as my 3 little monsters weren't scared when I wore it.

The Sesame Street Martians are only as good as seen in action.  Hope this jogs some memories if the picture doesn't.

Fish, Fun & Fright

Every Halloween the New England Aquarium has their Fish, Fun & Fright night.  This year Izzy wanted to go with her BFFs, Bonnie & Siri.  This is such a fun night.  You have to earn your treats at the various stations.

Even the fish get to celebrate Halloween.

The finale is a costume contest.  The winner of the child category was the Angler Fish in front of Izzy.  Though the girls did not win, they had such a fun night together.  Izzy even cried when we came home knowing that her friend Siri wouldn't be here next year to do this again as she is returning to Sweden.

LCSH Halloween Party

Every year LCSH has their annual Halloween party at the park.  While waiting for the parade of costumes, we ran into our neighbor and her new baby Judah.
 And here comes preschool....
 My little Lightning McQueen.
My princess posing for a picture.
A party is never complete without Wayne.
I wasn't able to get a picture of all of us looking at the camera at once.  This is the best one I got.
I just laugh at Izzy's face in this one.  She's my theatrical girl.

It's Apple Picking Time

A fall tradition in New England is apple picking.  We took Oma with us for the fun.  The weather was phenomenal for this activity.  We started out with a hay rack ride scoping out where to go for the apples.
The kids picked out which pumpkins they wanted.  Unfortunately every time we set ours aside, someone would take one or two of them.  So we picked ours out right before leaving so we could carry them straight to the car.

Everyone got into picking.  Micah was fairly serious about getting in there are getting one.

Afterwards, we hung out at a play area and enjoyed some cider doughnuts.  They were amazing and worth standing in line.

Come Sail Away!

Kid-less, I was invited to go sailing for Labor Day.  This was something I have never done so jumped at the chance to go.  Plus, it didn't hurt that the people I was going with are super fun!  Of course one must entertain yourself on the drive to Maine which meant taking many pictures.

Almost there we stopped to eat lunch in Damariscotta.  We sat right on the edge of the water and ate fresh Damarscotta oysters which came from only feet away.  Yummy!

A view from my bedroom window.  Amazing to wake up to this every morning.
Christmas Cove... only feet away from the cabin.
The Claire.
A beautiful boat.  Not only was this an experience I don't think I'll get to do again, she was right up my alley being built of wooden and coming from a nostalgic time.
I think I could get use to this!
Can you believe they let me sail!
Amazing the physics behind sailing to go faster or slower.  We were 'racing' this boat and of course, won.
Besides sailing, eating seafood was also done all weekend.  This is a view from Shaw's.
Mark made me a fan for fried scallops... my mouth is watering now as I write this.  Scallops, oysters, lobsters... all so good when they come straight from the ocean to your plate.

 A final farewell.
A tradition I was told was to write a note to the next people who make their way to the cabin... The Playhouse.  Instead of writing a note, Kerry and I sand a song.  "Tell Him" was a running joke this weekend as Eric couldn't stand us singing it all the time.  It worked well for a thank you song for Mark who hosted us this weekend.
We may not be the best signers but we do not lack in creativity!
What an amazing and fun weekend!

Seaver the Weaver

Part of Izzy's school curriculum is to keep track of what books you read at home.  I have gotten tired of reading our own library over and over again.  Therefore, I try to take Izzy to the library once a week to get new books.  One trip Izzy picked out 'Seaver the Weaver'.  This is a book about an orb weaving spider who doesn't like to weave orb webs.  Its a very cute book.  The interesting thing the morning after we read this, we had our own Seaver the Weaver on our porch.  The kids found him interesting since we read this book.  We had to check on Seaver whenever we were coming and going.  They enjoyed seeing him work and he did not disappoint.  His webs were perfect and beautiful.  Izzy even tried to catch a fly to throw into his web once.  Now that the weather is changing, Seaver is gone.  Amazing how one little creature created weeks worth of conversation / education.  Thank you little spider.

Pierce Fit Fest

Each year shortly after school starts, Izzy's school has their annual Fit Fest.  This is a day with activities to encourage you to get out and be active.  Each student purchases a card with all the zones on it to keep track of what you did.  You do not have to do all the activities.  There were 14 zones and a 1 mile run.  Izzy and her BFFs were determined to do EVERYTHING.
The first event was the 1 mile run.  It turned out to be more like a run-walk.  They wasted all their energy on sprinting the first part.  I was not complaining since I had to run with the twins in the stroller and all our stuff in the stroller.  Though Izzy and her friends came in last, I gave them an "A" for effort.  Many students didn't even do the run.  I saw a few who only participated in one activity and then asked for their completion medal.
This was the 3 Legged Race zone.  Izzy and Bonnie were up against two boys much older then them.  But the boys got cocky.  Izzy and Bonnie took it slow and steady like the tortoise in 'The Tortoise and the Hare'.  They beat those boys who were not to happy with that!
Izzy's sack was way too big and she needed help.
Bonnie and Siri raced this course.  I raced Izzy earlier.
The Hula-hoop zone.  After this Izzy asked for a hula-hoop for Christmas.
