The 4th of July is a special holiday in the Bures family. I have found memories of homemade ice cream and the famous parachute contest when I was younger. It is fun to see these same traditions are now passed on to the next generation thanks to the efforts of Oma & Opa!
What a better way to beat the heat then going to the pool... wait it really wasn't hot which was surprising. We were one of only 10 patrons to the pool. This made waiting in line non-existent. Izzy was excited to show her older cousins her ability to swim in the deep end. This meant loads of fun with the water slides and diving boards. Victoria kept to herself in the shallow end or at the steps where the older kids got out of the pool being a spectator. Micah loved going down the twisty slide more than a dozen times. He could have lived there if we didn't encourage him to try something else.
There is an amazing selection of fireworks to choose from on the farm. Something that we wouldn't be able to do in Boston as this is outlawed. A newer tradition is the car race. Everyone picks a car with the winner being the one who goes the farthest.
And the winner is.... John!... despite Avery's attempt at rigging his car.
I'm never sure how Victoria will do in situation that are anxiety provoking. The fireworks were loud and she wanted to go inside. Once Opa's headphones were provided, she was more than content to stay outside with the cousins celebrating.
The 4th of July would not be the same without the parachute contest. Everyone participated this year. Some tears were shed. Many falls were taken. But all walked away with at least one parachute.
Once the sun set, the big ones were brought out. Thanks to the boys for orchestrating the celebration. The women and children got to sit back and enjoy with chanting from the younger ones of 'we want more'!
The finale is always the flag with American songs being sang.
Sparklers are the end to a very fun night. Can't wait till next time! We are already talking about it in our home.
