April is National Poetry month. Izzy's curriculum that month was learning about poems. They learned different styles including Lists, Haiku and Rhyme. For April vacation, part of her homework that week was to create a poem. Her teacher also included a form to enter any of the student's poems at poetry contest at a local book store. They have been holding this contest for 19 years. There are 5 age categories. In each category there is 1 overall winner and 4 honors. Izzy's poem received honors. At the awards ceremony, we learned that one of her good friends from daycare was the winner! Connor and Izzy have been going to daycare together since they were babies.

Izzy's poem was about a fashion show. We watched YouTube videos over and over again to come up with this list. I asked her what she saw and wrote it down. Only one word was given by me to her to expand her description. Can you guess which one? Hint... comes from the sewer in me. All the other words came from Izzy. Not sure what genes she inherited as English was not my strong suit.
Each student had the chance to read their poem to the crowd. They were then awarded a gift certificate to the book store. Many kids left that night with a new book. Izzy picked out a collection of poetry. I thought that was quite fitting.
